The nose of Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series Straight Bourbon starts mildly with a minty and dusty rye spice aroma and very light oak. If you dive deep enough (but have to work at it), you can discern some very soft caramel, dark fruits, and nutmeg. However, this is not an assertive nose by any means.
In many ways, the palate is a reflection of the nose. A little rye spice kick is mixed in with soft baking spices and faint oak. Other than that, Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series Straight Bourbon's palate is somewhat uneventful and astringent. Unfortunately, this is a boring tasting experience as it provides nothing special, especially for a 6-year bourbon with a high rye mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley. The notes of this 96-proof bourbon give you little to anticipate.
The finish kicks up the spice once it hits the back of your throat. However, it doesn't radiate for too long. Any sweetness you discern on the palate is gone on the finish as this bourbon turns even drier than the palate. The leathery oak is still present on the finish.
