On the nose of Breckenridge Whiskey Madeira Finish, there is an apparent fruitiness, like a dark cherry mixed with dark chocolate and light caramel. These aromas are not too intense but have a rich, heavy, and agreeable feel. The notes are wonderfully consistent throughout the tasting. This is my second pour; the first pour was many months ago and was not memorable. I do not remember getting these notes. However, now I am pleasantly surprised by the richness of the nose. It is very complex and aromatic.
Unfortunately, this is not a smooth whiskey. Having said that, the elements that you smell are on the palate as well; dark fruit, light but rich dark chocolate, and mild caramel.
This whiskey makes me furious because it had the potential to be very, very good but misses the mark because of its brazen youthfulness and the sharpness of the alcohol. The proof is only 92 but drinks hotter. Its harshness kills any chance of unquestionable success. Breckenridge Whiskey Madeira Finish is like an athlete who has all the tools for greatness but has one fatal flaw that keeps him from being great.
