Musty oak. That is the first thing I sense on the nose of Broken Barrel Limited Edition Cask Strength Bourbon, Batch 007. After a few seconds of sitting in the glass, a little bit of caramel intertwines with the oak, but that musty oak aroma is still dominant. The caramel becomes even more intense if you let the bourbon sit in the glass for a while.
Walnut and tobacco notes are evident too in Broken Barrel Cask Strength. Peppery spice. If you focus, you can taste sweetness under the other notes. That sweetness grows over time.
This tasting experience is so weird, but Broken Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon was not appealing to me at first, but the more I sipped on it, the more I liked it.
I have to say; something is appealing in this musty oak profile. There’s a little bit of sweetness and a lot of spicy tannic heat.
Unfortunately, even at 116 proof, to finish is a little short.
