Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose Review - Rating: 78
As soon as I open a new bottle, I always anticipate a burst of aromas. Buzzard’s Roost Barrel Strength Straight Bourbon Whiskey did not disappoint. It began with a nice blast of vanilla, caramel, and spice. A very traditional start. Unfortunately, the aroma soon subsided, and I had to work hard to get additional notes. As far as the spice goes, I could pull out some light cinnamon and licorice. There was no ethanol smell at all. In fact, all of the notes on the nose were very, very muted. I typically like an aroma that smacks me in the face and stays there.
Palate Review - Rating: 80
On the first taste, the youthfulness of the 114.4 proof blend of 4 to 6-year-old MGP bourbons is evident in the heat. However, the baking spices, mainly pepper, sweet rye spice, and some licorice, are evident. Minimal molasses, but not sweet. There’s also a little bit of creaminess and sweetness that added to the initial tasting experience. But make no mistake about it; Buzzard’s Roost Barrel Strength Straight Bourbon Whiskey is an aggressive-tasting spice bomb. Spice rules the day. Letting your saliva work a little will release some honey sweetness to temper the aggressive baking spices in this barrel-strength bourbon.
Finish Review - Rating: 83
The finish lingers. However, the finish has an additional sweetness to complement the spicy heat. It doesn’t go completely dry, as the notes mentioned above are supplemented by tobacco.
Uniqueness Review - Rating: 76
Buzzard’s Roost Barrel Strength Straight Bourbon is a traditional bourbon-tasting experience that leans towards the spicier end of the spectrum.
Value Review - Rating: 77
The MSRP of Buzzard’s Roost Barrel Strength Straight Bourbon is around $69.99.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
