Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose Review - Rating: 78
The nose of Buzzard's Roost Smoked Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey is clear and unquestionably rye spice. Rye is the first thing you smell and the last. As I tried to pick up more notes, the ethanol became evident, albeit somewhat mild. There is also a little smokey char mixed with the rye. After letting the glass sit for a few minutes, I finally got some brown sugar and honey sweetness notes.
Palate Review - Rating: 79
The palate is initially a reflection of the nose on this 105-proof non-chill filtered whiskey. The rye spice is king here; make no mistake about it. If you love the taste of rye, you'll love this whiskey. Aside from that, there is a little bit of honey sweetness and woody toasted oak on the initial sip. However, the rye spice is forever present throughout this tasting experience. There's little complexity here in Buzzard's Roost Smoked Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey. This is a rye enthusiast's rye.
Finish Review - Rating: 78
There is definitely a theme here. On the finish, which is very dry, is rye spice and white pepper. The white pepper is the note that lingers the longest on the finish.
Uniqueness Review - Rating: 76
One of the most rye-centric whiskeys I have had in a while. I'm unsure if that's good since the complexity is missing.
Value Review - Rating: 77
The MSRP of Buzzard's Roost Smoked Barrel Straight Rye is around $69.99.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
