Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch has the privilege of being a child of the Buffalo Trace Distillery. It is a popular child, but is he deserving of the notoriety? Here are my tasting notes and review.

Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose Review - Rating: 81
EH Taylor Small Batch starts off with a soft ethanol aroma. There is a very, very mild, dare I say hint of rye spice that is barely noticeable. So, I let it sit for a while as I tried to figure out why there is such a fervor over Buffalo Trace Distillery Bourbons. Then I pick it back up and, BOOM! Suddenly there was a relatively sweet, but mild, vanilla and caramel aroma. I’ve come to realize that you have to let this sit in the glass for a while before the aromas are released.
Palate Review - Rating: 84
At 100 proof, it drinks its proof level. It is not complex, but there is a slightly creamy mouthfeel. I hoped the taste would open up since it happened with the nose. Well, it eventually did. Sweet caramel, light char, and toffee with an almost syrupy nature become the theme. I’m trying very hard to pick up other notes, but they are not there in this batch.
Finish Review - Rating: 77
The finish goes dry with black pepper and is of medium length.
Uniqueness Review - Rating: 77
While there is nothing unique about the Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch profile, it is done very well.
Value Review - Rating: 85
As with most Buffalo Trace Distillery spirits, the retail price is appropriately $39.99. However, you will never find it at that price in most states unless you are purchasing an allocated item that requires you to purchase other whiskeys for the "rights" to purchase this. Still, I will gauge the value based on its retail pricing.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
