When the Jack Daniels distillery notified the world that they were releasing a single barrel barrel-proof rye, it instantly shot to the top of my list of whiskeys to purchase. I had previously purchased Jack Daniel's 2020 Single Barrel Special Release Barrel Proof Rye, which was exceptional. I hoped this permanent release was not too far behind the special release. After my initial tasting, I was pleasantly surprised that this Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye, which was to be a permanent extension of Jack Daniel's single barrel collection, was not too far behind the Special Release in the tasting experience. Anyway, here is my review.

Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose Review - Rating: 83
The nose of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye starts off dark, thick, and chewy with only a little bit of ethanol. Dark brown sugar and molasses notes. Initially, there were some dark fruits, particularly black cherry, but that went away quickly. Before that, when I first nosed the whiskey, I got notes of dried figs. The ethanol occasionally tingles your nose hairs, but that goes away afterward and does not detract from the overall aroma. Again, figs, oak, and a little rhubarb.
Palate Review - Rating: 84
The palate features dusty and dark caramelized brown sugar and heat. Once it reaches the mid-palate, it changes to salted blackstrap molasses with a sweat-smokey toasty oak flavor. This Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye tasting has a good bit of heat but drinks lower than its 137-proof.
Finish Review - Rating: 81
The finish is a dry blackstrap molasses with a moderately lengthy and warm-to-hot finish that goes a little dry at the end of this Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye tasting.
Uniqueness Review - Rating: 82
The unique, toasted oak, and charcoal mellowed Jack Daniels profile is evident on this single barrel rye.
Value Review - Rating: 87
I paid $59.99 when Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye hit the shelves. Today, months later, I occasionally see it at $69.99 but more often at $99.99. Still, $59.99-69.99 is a great price for this exceptional product.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
