Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose Review - Rating: 83
Locke + Co. Aspen Aged Rye Whiskey starts with a mild cinnamon spice aroma that is strangely rich smelling. Sweet, creamy crème brûlée and mild ethanol are next—a delicious aroma with a bit of rye spice. Suddenly I also sense an unexpected cardamom and caramel mix on the nose. The nose is relatively complex.
Palate Review - Rating: 80
The cardamom carries through to the palate and is closely followed by vanilla and rye spice. The mouthfeel is a little thin, yet it tastes bolder than a 90-proof whiskey. Somewhat youthful sweet oak, but good, quickly followed by black pepper. I would love to try this at cask strength.
Finish Review - Rating: 77
While there is excellent heat on the back of the throat, the warmth dissipates once it goes down the esophagus. Expect pepper and cardamom on the finish too.
Uniqueness Review - Rating: 85
This is a different rye whiskey, and a good one. I can't say that I've tasted too many with this wonderful cardamom theme.
Value Review - Rating: 78
At a retail price of $59.99, this is priced right where it should be. I'd pay more for a cask strength version.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
