94 Highly Rated Bourbon General Review of Maker's Mark Private Selection

108.5 proof

Private Selection stakes:

4 French Cuvee stakes- The goal of this stave was to add intense butterscotch, caramel and it also has a little nuttiness.

4 Roasted French Mocha stakes- used to unlock dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavors and heavier char flavors.

2 Toasted French Spice stakes- designed to produce fruity spice flavors some even as complex as coumarin, which is a cinnamon and smoky spice.

The choice of the staves and understanding their importance is critical when choosing a Private Selection from MM.  I’ve been searching for this, or something similar, stave selection for awhile to see if it would live up to my expectations, and I must say, my expectations have been met.  This isn’t a very complex whiskey, but the desired flavors pop out of the bottle and glide over the palate in a gentle manner.  The is an extremely pleasant sip and is the very definition of “smooth.” The nose is excellent with aromas of brown sugar, molasses, caramel, a bit of chocolate, and a bit of a floral note.  The palate is nothing but sugary goodness which I love, and it coats the mouth with a nice creamy texture.  Caramel, brown sugar, baking spices, and butterscotch gently roll over the tongue into a short and sweet finish.  I was all too excited to find the stave selection that I’ve been hunting, and it did not disappoint.
