I am finally getting to Barrell Armida. Quick thoughts. I’m not sure what the mash bill is, but Barrell Armida is GOOD; pear, apricot, and salted caramel palate were the first things to hit me.
Fruity, floral, and a little buttery on the palate, with an excellent medium viscosity too. The palate is sweet, spicy, and balanced. Nosing this is almost like walking through a meadow of flowers at Yosemite National Park. It drinks a little smoother than its 113.54 proof, but the rye spice perfectly makes up for it. Let's not forget the molasses and pear on the palate too.
The palate is complex but not as complex as Barrell Seagrass. However, I prefer it to Seagrass, but it is not a better whiskey than Seagrass (if that makes sense). Seagrass is one of the more exciting pours of the year.
I love Barrell products, and Armida, while not as tasty as Dovetail, is another Barrell hit with a different taste profile. This superb whiskey is a blend of three Straight Bourbon Whiskeys finished individually in Pear Brandy, Jamaican Rum, and Sicilian Amaro Casks.
Barrell consistently produces some of the best finished and blended whiskeys. Armida is an impressive, unique, and enjoyable experiment by Barrell.
