OMG! Stellum Black Bourbon is incredible. Do not get this confused with the Stellum Bourbon blue label. While the blue label is good, the black label takes Stellum to another level. It's worth the $89 I paid and is better than its sister (daughter?) company's Barrell's bourbon batches. Well, at least better than Batch 26; the only one I have had to date. It is even better than the Barrell Private Release I have. Wow!
Stellum Black is sweet, creamy, very caramelized, and has a nice char level. These features make it right up the personal preference alley. The taste reminds me of a more refined Penelope Toasted Series Char #2.
The nose on this is relatively complex and reflects the palate. Of course, it has a robust traditional bourbon nose, but it has the strangest (in a good way) candy-orange aroma intermingled with the caramel char. I thought the glass was the source of the candied aroma at first, but after switching glasses, it proved to be the bourbon. The nose is sweet and rich.
