This stuff is good! When I first nosed Belle Meade Bourbon Sherry Cask Finish, I expected something different from what I got. Initially, it was oak with molasses hiding underneath the oak; golden raisins too. However, the oak is what is front and center.
There is a rich, oily, and spicy kick that I did not expect from a 90.4 proof bourbon. Sometimes, I don't know what I'm tasting, but it's good. I've never had Oloroso Sherry, but there is a sweetness here that is not coming strictly from the corn. Molasses, oak, golden raisins, and fig on the nose, palate, and finish.
The mouthfeel is oily. All of that must come from the Sherry because Belle Meade's 90.4 Bourbon is very thin and almost watery. Belle Meade Bourbon Sherry Cask Finish is the opposite.
The finish is excellent as well. All of the flavors mentioned earlier are there on the finish. It is so warm going down, and there are even some residuals on the tongue.
