Union Horse Distilling Co. Rolling Standard Midwestern Four-Grain Whiskey Review

Nose

The first thing I sense on the nose of Union Horse Distilling Co. Rolling Standard Midwestern Four-Grain Whiskey is an initial burst of caramel and then mint, with a mild cinnamon aroma and a little bit of oak. After I took a few sips, there was a fruitiness on the nose that I can’t quite identify. The nose eventually morphs into a sweet, light vanilla cream and pistachio.

Palate

The palate is sweet with corn, mint, mild smoky malt, and spice. Union Horse Distilling Co. Rolling Standard Midwestern Four Grain Whiskey has a mash bill comprised of corn, wheat, rye, and Malta barley. It is a blend of two distinct styles of whiskey, a wheated bourbon and an American single malt aged for over four years in new Missouri oak barrels. Later in the pour, salted caramel and youthful oak notes come to the fore.

Finish

On the finish, the mint and sweetness linger. The finish of Union Horse Distilling Co. Rolling Standard Midwestern Four-Grain Whiskey is otherwise almost nonexistent and extremely mild.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
