Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is a good, bold, and spice-dominant rye whiskey. Frankly, it is kind of what you would expect from Wild Turkey; bold and spicy.

Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose Review - Rating: 79
From the start the nose is a minty rye spice, but not heavy. The nose is very light and airy with a hint of green apples, a tinge of ethanol, and very mild caramel.
Palate Review - Rating: 83
The palate of Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is bold from the beginning, with black pepper spice being the first discernible note. It heats up on the mid-palate and brings the heat to the back of the throat. As you would expect with a wild turkey whiskey, spice reigns supreme. However, there is some honey sweetness and creaminess to the palate, which provides a nice balance. The palate opens up after the first pouring and becomes much more rich and creamy. So, give this rye some time after your first pour.
Overall, this is a good but not complex rye that I wish was somewhat less aggressive and creamier. A tad bit more sweetness might help as well if those other elements were present...but that's nitpicking.
Finish Review - Rating: 84
The spicy rye heat lingers in the back of the throat and down the esophagus for a long time. Nutmeg, leather, and some oak linger below the spice.
Uniqueness Review - Rating: 78
Initially, other than its boldness, there wasn't much that made Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye unique. However, it come on strong after my initial pouring.
Value Review - Rating: 81
The price on this is all over the place, but retails at $49.99. I've only seen it once at that price and I paid $59.99 for my bottle. At retail, this is a good value.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
