Detailed Tasting Notes
Nose Review - Rating: 82
Initially, there’s a mild rye spice on the nose but not much else to begin with. After the mild rye spice, a green apple aroma comes to the forefront, like the old-school apple Jolly Ranchers. Beyond this, there's not much complexity to this 4-year-old (minimum) rye.
Palate Review - Rating: 87
A very creamy and strong rye spice puts you at the very beginning of the tasting experience. Bold minty rye spice with charred caramel. This is an aggressive and silky caramel, and honey-brown sugar flavor bomb. Wilderness Trail Settlers Select Single Barrel is a rye that is not shy about displaying its rye flavor. People who love the taste of rye will love Wilderness Trail's three-grain recipe of 56 percent rye, 33 percent corn, and 11 percent malted barley. While there is nothing particularly unique about the taste of this Wilderness Trail Settlers Select Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye, I would still consider this the quintessential or prototypical rye whiskey because of its refined nature. As you get deeper into the tasting experience, the sweetness comes to the fore.
Finish Review - Rating: 86
Bold spicy heat on the back of the throat and mid-palate. Nice long finish that maintains warmth all the way down the esophagus.
Uniqueness Review - Rating: 81
As stated earlier, there is particularly unique about this rye other than it possesses all of the good qualities of a cask-strength rye whiskey. So, from a quality and price perspective, it is unique.
Value Review - Rating: 89
A great value at $59.99 retail.

Smell IS taste. I am just a guy who has been hit with the bourbon bug and who has come to the conclusion that life is too short to drink average tasting bourbons. Go Gators!
